McKinley James est un guitariste/chanteur Rock & Roll de 17 ans originaire de Rochester, NY.
Son père, le batteur Jason Smay (Los Straitjackets, JD McPherson Band) a contribué à élever McKinley dans un foyer très musical. Il a commencé à jouer de l’orgue Hammond à 7 ans mais a découvert sa passion pour la guitare à 10 ans. Ses influences vont de Link Wray à Freddie King et Otis Redding. Il a commencé à se produire dans les clubs de blues et de jazz de Rochester à 13 ans et a joué avec Chris Duarte, The Nighthawks, Joe Beard et JD McPherson.
McKinley a sorti son premier EP « Live in Nashville » en octobre 2016, au Family Wash.
2019 verra la sortie du tout nouvel EP original de McKinley « By My Side » suivi en 2021 de « Still Standing By » coproduit par Dan Auerbach (The Black Keys) et en 2022 d’un nouveau LP live capturant l’énergie de ses concerts.

C’est l’un de mes guitaristes préférés sur la planète, un étrange hybride entre l’économie impeccable de Steve Cropper et l’abandon insouciant de Link Wray. Alors que son jeu de guitare est reconnu depuis des années, je pense que ses talents de compositeur sont à suivre de très près.

McKinley James is a 20-year-old Rock & Roll guitarist/singer from Rochester, NY.
His father, drummer Jason Smay (Los Straitjackets, JD McPherson Band) helped raise McKinley in a very musical household. He started on the Hammond organ at 7 but discovered his passion for guitar at 10. His influences range from Link Wray to Freddie King and Otis Redding. He started performing in Rochester blues and jazz clubs at age 13 and has performed with Chris Duarte, The Nighthawks, Joe Beard, and JD McPherson.
McKinley is also the face of the latest Eric Church album campaign, having starred in his music videos, and appears on the album cover for Church’s latest record, Mr. Misunderstood. McKinley released his first EP, Live in Nashville in October 2016, at the Family Wash.
2019 will see the release of McKinley’s brand new all original EP “By My Side”, 2021 “Still Standing By” co-produced by Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys and 2022 a new LP live capturing the energy of his live shows.
